ROADWAY FATALITIES ARE INCREASING
On March 2, 2022, the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released its 2020 annual traffic crash data, showing that 38,824 lives were lost in traffic crashes nationwide. That number marks the highest number of fatalities since 2007.
In 45% of fatal crashes, the drivers of passenger vehicles were engaged in at least one of the following risky behaviors: speeding, alcohol impairment, or not wearing a seat belt. The tragic loss of life confirms that we have a deadly crisis on our nation's roads.
The 2020 crash data report also examines fatality data in key categories, as compared to 2019:
- Fatalities in speeding-related crashes up 17%
- Fatalities in alcohol-impaired driving crashes up 14%
- Unrestrained passenger vehicle occupant fatalities up 14%
- Motorcyclist fatalities up 11% (highest number since first data collection in 1975)
- Bicyclist fatalities up 9.2% (highest number since 1987)
- Passenger car occupant fatalities up 9%
- Fatalities in urban areas up 8.5%
- Pedestrian fatalities up 3.9% (highest number since 1989)
- Fatalities in hit-and-run crashes up 26%
- Fatalities in large-truck crashes down 1.3%
Total vehicle miles traveled decreased by 11% in 2020, from 3,261,772 million to 2,903,622 million.
HUMAN ERROR CAUSES DEATHS
94% of all roadway accidents are related to human error. And this is in spite of the fact that vehicles are much safer than ten years ago. IN ALMOST EVERY INSTANCE, HUMANS ARE CAUSING THE ACCIDENTS AND THE FATALITIES.
If humans could be taken out of driver's seat completely (Level 5), accidents and fatalities would decrease exponentially. But this will not happen anytime soon - at least not on a large-scale basis.
WHAT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED ON A LARGE-SCALE BASIS IS AUTONOMOUS COLLISION AVOIDANCE AND HARM MINIMIZATION. THIS EMERGENCY INTERVENTION - WHEN NEEDED - IS FAR SUPERIOR AND MANY TIMES FASTER THAN HUMAN REFLEXES. THIS IS THE ANSWER TO SAVE LIVES!
ARI'S AUTONOMOUS SAFETY PATENTS CAN SAVE LIVES - NOW!
ARIhas developed - and is expanding - a strong IP position in autonomous highway safety technology so that tragic accidents can be avoided or harm mitigated. These photographs are disquieting, but this is the reality of what happens every day on our roadways.
OUR HIGHWAYS ARE A DEATH TRAP - 38,824 FATALITIES ON U.S. HIGHWAYS IN ONE YEAR. THIS SICKENING AND INEXCUSABLE CARNAGE CAN BE GREATLY REDUCED WITH INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FROM AUTONOMOUS ROADWAY INTELLIGENCE.
AUTONOMOUS ROADWAY INTELLIGENCE
AUTONOMOUS SAFETY
ARI's intellectual property can save lives otherwise tragically wasted on roadways throughout the world. The heartache associated with the death of a child, a loved one, or a friend is eliminated when people arrive safely at their destination.
